As part of the widening of the role of pharmacists in England and Wales, in selected pharmacies you can discuss the medicines you are taking with your pharmacist. This service is called a medicines use review and is your opportunity to:

  • find out more about your medicines and what they do
  • confirm that you understand when to take your medicines and how to take them
  • find out how your medicines mix with other medicines and supplements
  • discuss any side effects
  • talk about whether your symptoms are under control or not
  • feel confident your medicines are working to benefit your health

Pharmacists who offer this service will have a designated consultation area for private discussions in confidence. You will receive a copy of the review, as will your GP.

How do I get a review?

The pharmacist might invite you in person or by letter, or you can ask for a review yourself. You may need to pre-arrange an appointment. You must have been getting your prescription at that pharmacy for three months or more in order to have a medicines use review.
