The 2010 Annual General Meeting of Arthritis Care took place at the Leeds Park Plaza Hotel in Leeds on Saturday 10 July 2010,  followed by a showcase event celebrating some of the work of Arthritis Care

The meeting attracted members and trustees from across the UK, along with regional, national and UK office staff. Members voted on a range of resolutions, which were all passed, as outlined in the AGM minutes, the results of which may be viewed at: Members and Proxy Results. Although our president, Jane Asher, could not be at the meeting she sent a recorded video message to all the members. The vice chair, Ann Heaton, read out a letter from Helen Barbour, the widow of Arthur Mainwaring Bowen, the founder of Arthritis Care.  In addition the meeting was addressed by:

the chair, Rosemary Blair,

the treasurer, Samantha Peters,

and the chief executive, Neil Betteridge

The Meeting was rounded off by a series of questions posed by members.

Dr Maya Buch

Following lunch the AGM showcase session opened with Arthritis Care members taking part in a lively and upbeat question and answer session with health care professionals; Dr. Maya Buch, Dr. Chris Deighton and Dr. Anthony Redmond, following engaging presentations on specific arthritis topics.

David Smalley on Everest

This was followed by an interview with intrepid fundraiser David Smalley who gave a jaw dropping account of his trek to Everest Base Camp despite his own arthritis condition and his motivations for making his journey for Arthritis Care.

The afternoon was rounded off with a presentation of Arthritis Care’s new Fight Back Against Pain fundraising campaign which gave a real focus on starting small and building on opportunities in a move to greater things. A DVD which has been produced to bolster the campaign was shown. It features people with arthritis talking about the impact of pain on their lives and how Arthritis Care has helped them.

Outside the meeting, members had the opportunity to talk to staff and trustees at a series of stands that had been set up to showcase parts of Arthritis Care’s work during the year.

2011 AGM moved to Bristol

The 2011 AGM will be held on 25 June 2011 in Bristol.  The venue is a change from the previously advertised venue of south Wales.  The venue was changed to avoid conflict with a major sporting event that weekend in Cardiff.
