Arthritis Care launched their first virtual group in Scotland in January 2009 with the aim of bringing people with arthritis together to share their experiences, knowledge and support.

The idea arose when it became apparent that Arthritis Care’s support network in Scotland was spread across a huge area of the country, and this often resulted in people feeling alienated due to their location.

Whilst there are many people who would benefit from speaking to others living with arthritis, the condition often restricts their mobility, therefore restricting their options to travel.

21st century solution

A virtual group was a 21st century solution where individuals with arthritis could meet like minded people, talk about their experiences and offer each other support. With a computer and a broadband connection, they can do this in the comfort of their own home.

The groups use message boards and real time chat where they can speak to all users a group or individually if it's a personal conversation.
