Local Health watch

Local Healthwatch

Joining your local  Healthwatch  will help you to  influence how health and social care services are commissioned in England .

These new independent health ‘consumer champion’ groups are key partners in health and social care decision making, at council and local level.

We need more of our supporters though to join Local Healthwatch to have a widespread impact.

Local Healthwatch groups

Local Healthwatch groups have been created to develop the influencing role that Local Involvement Networks had in health care planning.

Local Healthwatch:

Provide a voice for patient views and feeds back on health and social care services

Influence local health and social care service commissioning by being represented on the local authority Health and Wellbeing Board

  • Have powers of referral to alert Healthwatch England to poor performing service  providers which then triggers a Care Quality Commission investigation
  • Offer advocacy and support for people wanting to choose local health services
  • Support patients to make complaints about the standard of service received

We want to see as many people as possible at local authority level influencing health services to improve services for people with arthritis.

Talking to your regional  Arthritis Care’s Area Development Managers  will help give you the confidence to get involved in Local Healthwatch.  We can send you a list of key issues for people with arthritis that you might want to raise.

How do I join my Local Healthwatch?

You can visit the Local Healthwatch page to find out your nearest Healthwatch and for ways to join up:

You can also encourage your local Healthwatch to affiliate to HAPIA, an independent  body that represents Healthwatch organisations:

Please let your local Area Development Manager (Arthritis Care’s Area Development Managers) know if you have joined your Local Healthwatch.
