We understand that making a Will is a very personal matter, but it can be considerably less daunting than many people think. However, we would always recommend using a qualified solicitor when drafting or making changes to your Will.
Unfortunately, there is no straightforward answer to this question. The cost for each Will varies depending on your individual circumstances and how complicated your affairs are. Arthritis Care cannot recommend any solicitors but the Law Society can provide a list of local solicitors.
The Law Society also offer a Free Guide to Making Your Will.
Yes. Arthritis Care has recently joined the TotallyFREEWills project. This is a new online Will making service available to all members of the public, and allows you to have your Will drafted by a professional solicitor for free. Arthritis Care did not pay to join this service, nor does it pay for any Will made through TotallyFREEWills.
Whilst there are homemade Will products available, we would always recommend the use of a solicitor to draft your Will. Homemade Wills can often lead to problems that might be expensive to fix. Details might be missed out that could invalidate your Will, or lead to individuals missing out.
Whatever the problems, they may require professional advice to correct, and they can of course cause distress to all those who are involved.
