Arthritis Care is delighted to announce the winner of its creative writing competition 2009 – Lorraine Newark for her poem Sssh…
The Arthritis Care creative writing competition is a yearly event, which aims to give people with arthritis an outlet to explore their condition through writing. In 2009, we asked people to write about their arthritis in no more than 750 words using the theme Holiday from pain.
Lorraine wins a five-day residential course at the award-winning writing school, the Arvon Foundation
‘Lorraine did a difficult thing by embracing a surprise in her writing,’ said Arthritis News columnist and competition judge David Strutt.

The runner-up of the Arthritis Care creative writing competition 2009 is Diana Dentith.
Arthritis Care President and competition judge Jane Asher described Diana’s entry as ‘a surreal and touching story about love and unselfishness.’
Many thanks to everyone who entered the competition in 2009.
Congratulations also to shortlisted writers (Katie Wright, Simon Newman, Astrid Stevens, Margaret James, Marusia Forshaw).
