Arthritis Care’s Stafford branch members were keen to meet their local MP, to find out what he does and to pose questions about issues that affect them in their area.

So in April 2008, MP David Kidney attended the branch meeting. Branch members asked questions about what David does when he is at the Houses of Parliament and how he balances that with time in his constituency.

Post Office access

Several branch members spoke to David about the relocation of Stafford’s main Post Office to the first floor of the town’s WH Smith. Access for people with mobility problems is poor as the small lift is at the back of the store.

David has since gone on to debate the accessibility problems of the Post Office in the Houses of Parliament.

Carol Ingram, chair of the Stafford branch said: ‘David was really interested in the views of the members. He had time for everyone, and was very easy to talk to.’

Carol continued to say: ‘All our members commented on what a success the evening had been. We’d recommend other branches invite their MP along to a meeting.’

Mick Warner, regional policy and campaigns manager said: ‘At a time when MPs are concentrating on the needs, wants and wishes of their electorate as never before, this kind of event gives people with arthritis an opportunity to raise their concerns with their local MP.’
