Northern Ireland’s Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety, Edwin Poots MLA, addressed Arthritis Care’s Professional Lecture at the Stormont Parliament on September 29. Health economist Gisela Kobelt was the keynote speaker on access to anti-TNF’s across Europe.

Speaking at the Lecture to a large gathering of people with arthritis, policy makers, administrators and health professionals, the Minister said: ‘These medicines can make an enormous difference to people’s lives. … I can’t guarantee an imminent date tonight, by which waiting times for anti-TNF drugs will have definitely reduced to a more appropriate duration, but I can assure you it is something which I am very strongly committed to…it is something I feel morally compelled to do'.

Other speakers included Jim Wells MLA, Deputy Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, consultant Dr Philip Gardiner, Arthritis Care Youth Contact Rionach Campbell, and Professor Kevin Balandra of the Irish Institute of Public Health.
