Five intrepid supporters abseiled from the Forth Bridge to raise money for Arthritis Care’s Joint Potential programme . Tracy Smith, Steve Hutcheon, John Morrow, Jim Honeyman and Rhona Hay have so far raised £2020.

Tracy is a volunteer who delivers our training courses, and is on the Scotland committee. ‘As a youngish person (39) who has had rheumatoid arthritis for the past 14 years, my reason for doing the abseil was to raise money and awareness. It was great and I would definitely do it again,’ said Tracy.

Steve also had personal reasons for taking part. His father-in-law had rheumatoid arthritis, so Steve is well aware of the effect this can have on the person living with arthritis and their family.

As a reflexologist Rhona works on a daily basis with people living with a long-term condition. She, and her partner Jim, wanted to experience what it felt to outside their comfort zone – something many people with a long-term condition feel on a daily basis. John likes adventure sports and has raised lots of money for other charities. ‘I knew as soon as I asked him he would do it,’ said Tracy.

Arthritis Care hopes to have 20 places for the next abseil, which takes place on 6 June 2010. If you are interested in taking part and raising money to support our work with people with arthritis, please get in touch.
