Joint Potential is for anyone aged 16-25 with any form of arthritis; you can benefit whether recently diagnosed or if you've known about it for years. The events challenge how you live with arthritis: exploring tricky issues, finding solutions and setting goals to give you more confidence.

Below are all the weekend courses offered by Joint Potential:

Weekends run from Friday evening to Sunday lunch (Sunday evening for the Activity weekend); for dates see our main Joint Potential page.

  • Activity weekend - an outdoor activity weekend designed to enable you to get out there and enjoy doing whatever you can. In 2009 we went canoeing, kayaking, gorge walking and had a great campfire in the evening! It’s about building confidence and having fun in equal measure in a totally unpressurised environment.

  • Positive Future - so you've got arthritis, what now? This event looks at various aspects of life (family, friends, social life and work or study) and how to get the most from them by challenging how you think and how you set goals.
  • Moving up and Moving on - what is it to become 'adult' and when and how do we grow up? By the end of this workshop you'll be better equipped to deal with the changes life throws at you and have a clearer direction for the future.
  • The Self-Image course doesn’t focus on arthritis, but on how self-awareness can help your confidence, relationships and decision-making. We think about what has influenced and shaped our attitudes and values, what we are good at and how to think positively about ourselves. We also take a look at the way we make decisions and solve some tricky dilemmas… At the end you’ll be more self-aware, confident about what you want and why, and have new goals for the future.

The events are free as they've been funded by Scottish branches of Arthritis Care. We'll can even pay your travel costs. You can come to one event or all - but it's first come, first served, so don't hang about! If you want a place or want to know more get in touch.

Who will be there?

Events are for 10-12 participants (14 for activity weekend), and will be led by our contact volunteers who also have arthritis - so everyone there will know just what it's like to be young and have arthritis. If you've not come along before, we'll put you in touch with one of our contacts so before you come to an event you'll know someone there.

If there's something on your mind, you can talk to any one of them knowing that they will offer the best support they can.
