More people with arthritis are set to benefit from our self-management skills in South England as volunteers have come forward to help run the Challenging Pain workshop.

Challenging Pain is a self-management course currently being piloted to help participants learn techniques to help them combat chronic pain. Its success is dependent upon the number of volunteers we can recruit who are willing to run the courses and the quality of their skills.

In the past few months Arthritis Care has had the opportunity to train new and existing members of staff and volunteers to deliver the Challenging Pain workshops. The training took place at the Passage House Hotel, Kingsteignton, in Devon. Below are just three of the comments made by the delegates:

  • ‘This was a very interesting and well presented course. There was great group interaction and role play which helped us to bond.’
  • 'The trainers were excellent, obviously good speakers – and good fun. The environment was supportive and encouraging, so the participants all got on so well together. This training really does give you the confidence in your own abilities.’
  • ‘Practice delivery was scary, but very valuable particularly with the constructive criticism.’
