Are you are aged between 12 and 18? Do you want to meet other people who have arthritis like you? This two-day residential weekend could be just the thing for you.

‘It was a fun weekend. I don’t feel alone anymore. I feel part of an amazing group of people’

What is it?

It’s a chance to get away from the folks at home and be with other people who know what you are going through. We will give you some ideas about how you can get what you want from life, and how to kick your arthritis into touch. And we do some fabulous activities too, like sailing and rock climbing.

So what happens?

The big selling point for this workshop is the fact that it is led by volunteers aged 18-25 who all have arthritis too. So they understand what it is like, living with this condition. They will run the workshop and make sure it’s friendly and informal. Don’t worry, there are no tests, it is just a matter of everyone sitting down, sharing ideas and experiences and doing some easy, practical stuff. The volunteers will hand over to the pros for the sports activities when you can really let your hair down.

What does the workshop cover?

As well as the fun sporty stuff, there will be discussion and simple exercises around what it is like living with arthritis, and how to make things better. The content includes:

  • identifying the problems arthritis causes us
  • thinking positively about yourself
  • learning how to be assertive
  • setting goals to help your independence

And what will it cost me?

All our workshops are free to attend. We obtain funding from various bodies which covers our running costs so it doesn’t cost you anything.

If it’s free, how do I know it’s any good?

We know it’s great because the people that take part in our workshops tell us they’ve enjoyed themselves and feel more confident about their condition. Socialising through the activities helps to create a comfortable environment for sharing ideas and experiences. Our records show participants go on to make use of what they have learned – see for yourself. And we don’t leave you high and dry afterwards – we keep in touch so you still have some support available once the workshop is over.

It sounds great, how can I sign up?

Take a look at our course calendar and use the information there to complete our form for young people. If there isn’t anything available near you, please still send us your form. This means we can keep track of demand and keep you up to date with announcements of any new courses and workshops.
