I first went on a Challenging Arthritis course some nine years ago and from the first session I was hooked. I was really low when I first went on the course and at the end of the six weeks I felt so different. I was asked to become a training volunteer and had no hesitation about saying yes.
I chose to volunteer with Arthritis Care because of what it had done for me. Since then I have seen the story repeated so many times. Challenging Arthritis does change lives and renews hopes of a good standard of living. It’s a simple programme that you never forget. The programme works and the results speak for themselves.
The thing I like most about volunteering with Arthritis Care is meeting people and seeing how they change – seeing them become more positive; no longer feeling they are different and isolated; making friends. I belong to a support group that has been going for eight years. We help each other and have become firm friends.
If you have a love of people, are compassionate and want to make a difference, you would enjoy being a training volunteer. I find that I am not only helping myself, I am also helping others and it does make a difference.
