This one-day training course has been designed to help people with arthritis to deal with pain using the principles of self-help. It deals with:

  • the anatomy of a joint
  • defining the pain cycle
  • distinguishing the cause of any pain
  • explaining the use of arthritis medications
  • use of cognitive methods of pain management
  • use of physical methods of pain management.

The course aims to bring about:

  • a decrease in pain or perception of pain
  • an increase in mobility
  • fewer visits to GP or other health care professional.
  • less sick leave taken from paid work
  • fewer days education missed
  • more social events attended
  • new interests undertaken

The course is very informal. The trainers have arthritis themselves and so speak from first hand experience.
