Arthritis Care Together in Burton upon Trent started in the year 2000 and has gone from strength to strength since then.
We see ourselves as having several important roles, and these have evolved in line with what people with arthritis in Burton have shown they want and need.
Our role and successes include:
- providing friendship, support and encouragement to people with arthritis through the monthly meetings at the Beacon Hotel
- full monthly programme of education and advice sessions about the various effects of arthritis and how to manage them successfully
- campaigning for a second rheumatologist
- regular manned stalls at the hospital, ensuring Arthritis Care publications are widely available and giving support when necessary
- up to date information points in the rheumatology department at Queen’s Hospital
- commissioning of weekly Tai-chi for Arthritis exercise session in Stretton
- liaison with and support for other local support groups
- partnership with rheumatology department at Queen’s Hospital to ensure seamless team working in the provision of education and support
- liaison with the regional and national Arthritis Care groups
- maintaining a close watch on local and national political agendas, to ensure the needs of people with arthritis are met
- fund raising to support the groups activities
Current and planned projects include:
publicising the groups activities, so that more people may benefit from information, education and support, including developing a website for the group
facilitation of liaison with the other groups associated with rheumatology in order to share information
exploring future provision of hydrotherapy for the Burton community
developing a stronger campaigning voice for expensive medications to be widely available, and ensuring rheumatology services continue to be available at Queen’s Hospital Burton
to maintain our achievements and continue to develop, our group needs support and publicity.
Our messages can help so many more people.
We are constantly striving to make the format of the group and programme content as relevant as possible for as many people as possible.
Why not come along and find out what you can learn about your arthritis.
