Disabled people with managerial experience have a chance to get off to a flying start in the media, thanks to a new initiative from the BBC.

The ManageAble scheme offers placement for eight disabled people in categories ranging from journalism and finance to technology and business management.

The eight-month placements are on offer in London, Cardiff, Birmingham and Bristol and begin in November 2010. Deadline for applications is 12 July 2010.

What experience do I need?

The BBC are looking to recruit people based on their ‘experience, talent, potential and passion to achieve great things’ – not just on academic achievements.

The placement does not offer a guaranteed long-term job at the BBC, but in 2009 over two thirds of people on a similar disability scheme, called Extend,  gained further employment in the BBC.

Am I eligible?

The ManageAble scheme is open to all disabled people.

If you are recognised as disabled under the Disability Discrimination Act (2005) you can apply.
