Two staff nurses from Glasgow completed a cycle ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End, raising nearly £2,000 for Arthritis Care.

Jude Craig and Beth Seaman left John O’Groats on 21 May, arriving in Land’s End 16 days later on 6 June covering over 1,000 miles. They experienced nearly all weather conditions, with rain, hail and scorching heat from the sun.

They also climbed up hills so steep, they were forced to get off and push. To add to the adventure, their brakes were tested to the maximum when they braved steep downhill slopes .

At the beginning of the trip, Beth’s bike got a dent in the front wheel so she was forced to carry it to the nearest bike shop to get fixed before they could continue the rest of their journey. Apart from this initial setback, the ride was a great success.

Beth’s advice to anyone thinking of undertaking a similar challenge is to be very selective about what you take with you and ensuring only essential items are packed: “We had to post some things home to lighten the load!”

Jude and Beth chose Arthritis Care as a charity to fundraise for because of their close links with people with arthritis. Beth works with people with arthritis in a rheumatology clinic, and Jude's uncle has arthritis.

Jude also added: “Almost everyone knows someone with arthritis, as it's one of the most common causes of disability in the UK.”

Arthritis Care would like to congratulate them on their huge achievement and extend our sincere thanks for their hard work and determination in this fantastic challenge. Check out the photos of Jude and Beth on their cycling challenge.
