Arthritis Care’s 2015 AGM took place on Saturday 12 September at the Jurys Inn hotel in Birmingham. We held a showcase of our innovative services to support people with arthritis of all ages. Members heard how Arthritis Care is helping people achieve things they never thought possible and how we help people take back control of their lives.
Members also heard reports about our work in 2015 from the Chair, Gordon Anderson; Treasurer, Neil Spence; and Chief Executive, Judi Rhys.
Arthritis Care’s 2014 annual general meeting (AGM) took place on Saturday 13 September at Arthritis Care’s UK office in London.
Susan Cheetham, chair of the board of trustees, gave examples of the range of activities undertaken across the UK, including Arthritis Champions and the FIT project.
Neil Spence, treasurer, gave a detailed summary of the charity’s financial position to the end of 2013. This was very positive with a net surplus of income over expenditure totalling £1,577k.
Judi Rhys, chief executive, reflected on the progress made since the last AGM, including large increases in the number of people attending our self-management courses (over 3,800 in 2013). Judi spoke about the importance of impact and about the five impact goals in Arthritis Care’s new strategic plan.
Over 600 proxy votes were cast in advance of the meeting and 13 members, along with the full trustee board, attended on the day. All seven resolutions put to members were passed.
At the end of the meeting, members had an opportunity to put questions to the board, chief executive and staff leadership team. There were questions about encouraging membership, appealing to a wide age range, lobbying for changes to packaging and ensuring Clinical Commissioning Groups in England are better informed about Arthritis Care’s work.
